개요

도스 기반에 의존해온 윈도 1.x, 2.x, 3.x와 9x는 도스가 맛이 가면 윈도우도 동귀어진을 해버리는 심각한 단점이 존재해 왔다. 이 꼴을 더 이상 못보겠다 싶은 마소가 아예 처음부터 도스와 공존하는 것이 아닌 아예 다른 완전한 운영체제를 만들어내려고 새로운 기반을 완성했는데, 그게 바로 NT 기반이다.
